One more food post

You do know about Pioneer Woman Cooks, right?

These are...

Flashback 1981: Holiday Bacon Appetizers

Precooked Baon

1hour 2hours

Still Blogless Jackie (still blogless but on Ravelry - check out her neon Monkeys!) actually read through the 200+ comments to discover that cream cheese might possibly be preferable to the parmesan. And it's true. We made our batch half parmesan and half cream cheese. Cream cheese wins!

For more bacon fun, check out Jim Gaffigan's thoughts on the subject. (also from Jackie)

And can we recommend a few more Pioneer Woman treasures? Be sure to try Marlboro Man's favorite sandwich, the Olive Cheese Bread, and Penne a la Betsy.

Now I need to go find suitable buttons for a purple BSJ...

Weird food

I'll say right up front that I'm a picky eater. No onions unless they've had the crap cooked out of them. No peppers, no cold seafood, no tahini, no avocados, and the meat better be done (read: no pink at all). But I do love to try new things. I'm no longer allowed to bring unusual foods to work after the durian fiasco a few years ago (King of Fruits my ass - it's all an elaborate hoax) but Still Blogless Jackie is willing to humor me.

Allow me to introduce you to the Rambutan.

This was a really interesting fruit. How could I pass it up with all those cute curly hairs? It was simultaneously sweet and tangy. I'd definitely eat one again. The Wikipedia article says there are only a couple harvests a year so if you want to try them too, best hurry to your favorite ethnic grocery.

I'm cutting edge?

Your Score: the Cutting Edge
(61% dark, 57% spontaneous, 36% vulgar)

your humor style:
CLEAN | SPONTANEOUS | DARK

Your humor's mostly innocent and off-the-cuff, but somehow there's something slightly menacing about you. Part of your humor is making people a little uncomfortable, even if the things you say aren't themselves confrontational. You probably have a very dry delivery, or are seriously over-the-top.

Your type is the most likely to appreciate a good insult and/or broken bone and/or very very fat person dancing.

I seem to have lost my way around blogland. Yes, that means I've clicked that "mark all read" button a few times. I'm sure I'll see a street sign that looks familiar and get back on track eventually. There's a BSJ to share, most of a vest, and yes, Rogue - but no photos yet. There will probably be a weird food post sometime this weekend. You like weird food, right? No worries, it's not a durian. Oh no - I learned my lesson with that one!

Dogs on Thursday

Someone just had a bath...

Muddy / Cranberry / Socks (in no particular order)

I only seem to be able to post on weekends. Still no photos of Rogue. Eventually. Honest.

So how about Cranberry first?

Cranberry

This is an interesting fiber. Romney and Angora from White Creek Wool that I purchased back at the Upper Valley Fiber Fest. When was that? April? May? It's been in the stash for a while. This color is called Cranberry Frost - a very delicate color; not quite pink, not quite red. And the fiber itself is soft but almost rustic. Fuzzy on the bobbin which is surely the effect of the angora. I only have 4 oz of this so it shouldn't take much longer to spin up. (famous last words...)

Next word: Socks

In spite of the name on the photo, this is not a Charade sock (pdf link):

Casbahcharade

Apparently I'm too stupid at the moment to follow a pattern. I have no idea what pattern this is, but it's kind of pretty so I'll keep it. Fun how it spirals around too.

The real story here is the yarn. I may be spinning from my stash but this yarn is brand new. It decided to come visit Ohio from St. Louis during the last sneak up. This is Hand Maiden Casbah sock yarn in the color Blackberry. Why yes, it is insanely soft and the colors are perfect. There were still 4 colors left when I looked last. They could be yours...

Our last word is Muddy. It's pretty damp and dreary here and that tends to make for lots of mud where I walk the hooligans. You know you love puppy feet, so do I. Even with a bit of mud.

How can I not snap a pic when he's resting his head on his Scooby Doo pillow?

Random stuff to end the weekend

Some finished socks:

*Love* these! But yeah, my gauge changed. Even though I cast on #2 immediately. Obviously I was working on a different gauge project at the same time.

And that different gauge project? Done. :) Maybe photos later in the week. Right now the plan is to wear it to SnB on Tuesday. For the moment, Louie the guard cat will protect it. (I realize there haven't been many dog pics lately - sorry to the dog people - it's been muddy and gloomy so there haven't been any good shots lately. They'll be back soon.)

Guard

I needed a new project and after spending a huge amount of time on Ravelry, I've fallen back to an old wish for vests. I've started a plain ol' basic vest with this red Beaverslide Fisherman's weight. I really like this yarn and it's the world's most perfect red. I'm kind of toying with the idea of adding some needle felted decoration when it's done. Maybe. We'll see. Hell, I'm not even sure this project is a keeper yet.

Redvest

Last, some political stuff - this is a shockingly accurate gauge of my thoughts right now.

Mission: Grafting

Accomplished!

It is: Good. Enough. Please don't tell me how I could improve it. That would just make me collapse in a sobbing heap. We don't want that now do we?

Grafted

Lots of finishing to do yet...
